Dodi Taal Trek - Yamnotri, Uttarakhand Region: Garhwal Himalayas Base: Uttar Kashi or Kalyani Altitude: 3024 m above Sea Level
High up in the mountains is the Dodi tal lake- mysterious, alluring, and simply beautiful ! The serene, tranquil surroundings, gurgling streams, crystal clear water, and dense alpine forests make for an ideal retreat. The trek from Dodital to Yamnotri takes you through high altitude grasslands and dense virgin forests. The scenery en-route is really astounding !
The trek for Dodi Tal commences from Uttarkashi or Kalyani, which can be approached by road. Kalyani to Agoda is a gradual climb through woods, fields and villages along a mule track. The trek from Agoda to Dodi Tal is steep and through thick forests.
Day 01: Delhi - Haridwar: Early morning arrival at Delhi. 0700 hrs departure by train to Haridwar. Day at leisure to explore this holy town. Visit the 'Aarti' (holy ceremony) performance at the river 'Ghat' at sunset. Transfer to JG camp, Brahmapuri(32 km). Overnight at camp.
Day 02: Brahmapuri - Kalyani: Drive to the road-head at Kalyani. The drive takes you through the picturesque Garhwal mountains along the Ganges. Camp overnight by the side of river Asi Ganga. Overnight stay.
Day 03: Kalyani - Dodital: A gradual uphill trek through beautiful landscape of thick forests and steep cliffs brings you to the mysterious Dodital Lake (3307 m) - surrounded by dense forests, it is an ideal place for the nature lover. Overnight stay.
Day 04: Dodital - Day at leisure: The crystal clear lake and the surrounding dense forests create an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. Explore the surrounding areas. Campfire dinner at night. Overnight stay.
Day 05: Dodital: Day at leisure. Overnight stay.
Day 06: Dodital - Darwa Dhar - Begin the trek ascending the Darwa Dhar Ridge ( 4115 m ) - the watershed of the Ganga and Yamuna River valleys. Overnight stay.
Day 07: Darwa Dhar-Mid way Camp - Descend towards the Yamuna Valley. Set up camp for the night in the forest. Overnight in Tents.
Day 08: Camp-Hanuman Chatti - Continue to Hanuman Chatti ( 2400m ) located on the bamks of river Yamuna. Overnight stay.
Day 09: Hanuman Chatti: Day for rest.
Day 10: Hanuman Chatti-Yamnotri: Trek to the source of the river Yamuna; it is a gradual climb upto Yamnotri ( 3185m ). ( 10 Kms; 4-6 hrs of walking)
Day 11: Yamnotri - Mussoorie - Trek down to the road-head and proceed by Jeep to the hill station Mussoorie- overlooking the Doon valley. En-route visit Lakhamandal- a site associated with the heroes of the epic 'Mahabharata'. There is an ancient temple and cave formations which are of interest. Transfer to JG camp, Suvakholi. Overnight at camp.
Day 12: Mussoorie - Delhi: Day at leisure to explore the town. After lunch, proceed to Dehra Dun to board the 1700 hrs Train to Delhi. 2230 hrs arrival at Delhi; proceed to the Airport for onward flight back home.
